About the League
La Jolla Pop Warner (“LJPW”) is open to eligible boys and girls ages 5 to 15 that live within the our approved boundaries described below. Participation in LJPW requires a significant commitment of time and energy and it is not for everyone. However, for those that make the commitment and are willing to work hard it will be a fantastic experience they will never forget.
Football is the ultimate team sport that has something to offer anyone with the desire to participate and work hard. The commitment that the boys and girls will be making is not just to themselves, but to their team mates, coaches and league volunteers. That commitment means being at practice, learning their play book, showing respect to teammates, coaches and officials, playing hard, doing well in school and having a great time.
Our Season
Summer practice typically begins August 1st, with practices during the month of August four days a week, 2 1/2 hours per day for tackle teams and three days a week, 1 1/2 or 2 hours per day for flag teams. Practice times are determined by the head coach of each team and may change from time to time. However, we strive to keep practice times for all of our teams as close as possible for families with children playing on multiple teams. August practices will generally start at 5:00pm, but may change to accommodate the high school team’s requirements. We switch to a three day practice schedule in September with games typically on Saturday beginning the first week of September. It is very important for players to attend the August practices because players are required to complete 10 hours of conditioning and 10 hours of pad time before they are allowed to participate in scrimmages or games. Teams will likely have several pre-season scrimmages against other leagues on Saturdays in late August. We will likely have pre-season games scheduled on Labor Day weekend and the following weekend with the regular season commencing thereafter. Home games will be played at La Jolla Country Day School. The regular season ends by October 31st and the post season may go into November depending on how far your team advances in the playoffs.
